Privacy Policy

This policy explains what ReelDeal collects, why, who it is shared with, and how to get rid of it.

Effective date: August 6, 2026

The short version

Who we are

ReelDeal is a movie and television recommendation app operated by Nerdy Executive Labs Inc. In this policy, "ReelDeal," "we," "us," and "our" refer to Nerdy Executive Labs Inc. and the ReelDeal app and service.

1. What the app stores on your device

Whether or not you have an account:

DataWhy
Titles you rate, and how much you enjoyed themThe recommendation engine runs on this
Your watchlistTo show it back to you
How far through a series you areContinue watching and new-episode alerts
Streaming services you subscribe toSo recommendations can say where you can watch
Language preferences, filters, sort order, recent searchesTo keep the app the way you left it
Titles you have passed on, and until whenSo the same suggestions stop reappearing
Cached title metadata from TMDBSo the app works offline

This lives in the app's private storage and is removed when you delete the app. Your login session is stored in the iOS Keychain, marked device-only so it is never carried onto another device by an iCloud or iTunes backup.

2. What we store on our servers

Only if you create an account. Without one, nothing in this section applies except section 4 (Ask) and section 6 (advertising).

DataWhy
Email addressTo identify your account and let you sign back in
Ratings, watchlist, series progressSync between your devices
A handle and display name, if you choose oneSo friends can find you
Your phone number, only if you enter itOptional friend discovery, described below
Who you followThe friends feature
Watch party membership and votesThe shared shortlist feature; deleted within 12 hours
Product analytics events, described in section 5To find out which recommendations actually work

Phone numbers. Entering one is optional and the app works fully without it. It is stored only so that someone who already has your number in their contacts can find you. It is never readable through our API, not by other users and not even by you; the app keeps its own local copy to show you what you entered. Lookups are exact-match only and capped per person per day, so the directory cannot be crawled.

Ratings visible to others. A person you have approved as a follower can see titles you rated 3 out of 5 or higher. Ratings below that, and anything you mark private, are never visible to anyone else.

3. Anonymous (guest) sessions

Trying the Ask feature before signing up creates an anonymous account with no email and no credentials. It exists to give the daily usage limit something to count against. Nothing personal is synced to it, and it cannot be signed back into once the app is deleted.

4. Ask, and what goes to OpenAI

When you use Ask, we send to OpenAI: your question, a short summary of your taste profile (genres and moods, with no titles you rated and no identity), and a shortlist of candidate titles our own engine picked.

We do not send your email, user id, name, phone number, or rating history. OpenAI processes this to choose from the shortlist and does not use API content to train its models. See OpenAI's privacy policy.

Ask is limited to 15 questions per day per account, and 3 per day for guests.

5. Analytics

The app records a fixed, closed list of events, such as app opened, card opened, rating given, watchlist add, and ad shown, each with an optional title id and a per-launch session id. There is no free-text field, no advertising id, and no device fingerprinting in this data.

You can switch this off at You > Help improve recommendations. Turning it off also discards anything already queued on your device.

6. Advertising

The app shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To do that, Google receives information about your device and your interaction with the ads, and may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA).

We do not give Google your email address, your ratings, your watchlist, or anything else from section 2.

7. Everyone we share data with

WhoWhat they getWhy
SupabaseEverything in section 2Our database and authentication provider
OpenAIThe Ask payload in section 4To answer your question
Google AdMobThe ad data in section 6To serve ads
TMDBThe searches and titles you requestFilm and television metadata
OMDbTitle identifiersRotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores

Apple never gives us your Apple ID when you use Sign in with Apple, only an opaque identifier and, if you allow it, a relay email address.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond what section 6 describes.

8. How long we keep things

9. Your rights, and how to use them

Delete everything, in the app, right now: You > Account > Delete account. This erases your account, ratings, watchlist, progress, follows, analytics events, and usage counters from our servers, and wipes the copy on your device. It cannot be undone.

Depending on where you live (GDPR in the EEA and UK, CCPA and CPRA in California, and similar laws elsewhere) you also have the right to access, correct, port, or restrict processing of your data, and to object to it. Write to admin@nerdyexecutive.com and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Legal bases under GDPR: contract for section 2 sync and section 4 Ask; consent for section 5 analytics and section 6 personalised ads, each withdrawable in the app; legitimate interest for security, abuse prevention, and non-personalised ads.

10. Children

ReelDeal is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact admin@nerdyexecutive.com and we will delete it.

11. Security

Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Your session token is held in the iOS Keychain, not in app storage. On our servers, every table enforces row-level security so one account cannot read another's rows, and your phone number is not exposed through the API at all. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not store passwords ourselves; authentication is handled by Supabase.

12. International transfers

Our infrastructure and the third parties in section 7 may process your data in the United States. Transfers out of the EEA and UK rely on Standard Contractual Clauses.

13. Changes

Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect, and the date at the top of this page will change.
